Male relationships are the core issue
addressed in Season of Life. Why do too
many men have too few male relationships?
Are we hard wired that way or are we
influenced by our fathers? In Season of Life
we learned that men are judged by what Joe
Ehrmann calls "false masculinity". From an
early age, men are evaluated by their
performance on the ball field, in the bedroom
and by their bank accounts.
The author, Jeffrey Marx, touched on his
own relationship with his father. As we
discussed this aspect of the book, we
discovered that while our relationships with
our own fathers varied, reading this book
gave us a new perspective on our
relationships with our children.
While we enjoyed following a season with
Jim's team, the Gilman Greyhounds, first
and foremost the book laid the foundation for
open, honest discussion amongst ourselves
about the importance of relationships and
how success is measured in many different
ways.
"Mr. Marx follows one season of a very special high school
football team and the life lessons the team's coaches impart
to their athletes. This book is special. It should be read by
every coach , parent and athlete."
