Where to go for a walk on a wintry day - map

see the whole page for some cool winter fun!

There's skating?  How about cross country skiing?  Walking paths?  Snoeshoeing?

Tracking animals in the snow?

Map (not to scale): green denotes, well, public recreation areas

Walking Trails (and Cross-country Skiing trails, snow depth permitting)

  • Donovan Farms Paths: Corner of Circuit Street and Pleasant Street. Walk the path through the woods to the school courtesy of a year 2000 Eagle Scout project.

  • Norris' Reservation: at the corner of Dover and West Streets, just off Norwell Center, is a popular destination for walkers, providing a beautiful trail to the North River, a pond for fishing, streams, and even an old mill stone to picnic at.

  • South Shore Natural Science Center: on Jacobs Lane, about 1/4 mile up on the right off Main Street, Rt 123.  Click this link for their page.

  • Stetson Meadows: at the end of Stetson Shrine Lane (off River Street, near x-way bridge), and also accessible from the end of Shrine Road, offers walking trails, North River views, and is less traveled than Norris' Reservation.  See snowshoeing picture, below.

  • And you might be surprised what's close to your own backyard! get out and explore!

Skating can be found throughout the many ponds in Norwell.  Among the best are
  • Jacobs Pond, at Main Street, at the Hanover line (Route 123)
  • Mill Pond, off Central Street, just 1/4 mile north of Norwell Center
  • Norris Reservation, across from the Post office, off Dover Street
  • Tack Factory Pond, off Tiffany Road (west side), near Church Street intersection
  • Bogs, and ponds at Cross Street & Winter Street

Another great recreational resource is the South Shore Natural Science Center, located on Jacobs Lane (off Main St, Rt 123, near Hanover line)
