Caitlin Stempleski's Paul G. Jevne Memorial scholarship award winning essay on Norwell:
Note: Caitlin Stempleski won more scholarships this year
then any other student. One of the awards was the Paul G. Jevne Memorial
Scholarship, in memory of long time resident and real estate broker, Paul G.
Jevne. Here is Caitlin's essay:
"What does your hometown mean to you?"
When someone asks me what Norwell is
like I tell them it is a very welcoming, caring, supportive and a loving
environment to live in. I moved here in 1994, going into the seventh
grade, and everyone around me was so unbelievably thoughtful. I had new
neighbors and friends come over with cakes and many other enjoyable gifts to
welcome us to our new home. My family and myself just could not believe
what a pleasant place Norwell is to live in. Another example is when my
family discovered that my mother was terminally ill with ovarian cancer in
1996, all of my neighbors and friends came over with meals and desserts and
were always asking how we were doing. They offered to sit with my mom or
take her to her chemotherapy or do anything for us if we ever needed them, and
everyone of them still does, they take care of us like a large extended
family. It is just so surprising to us to find so many wonderful caring
people in such a small town. It makes me feel so nice inside to know
that I live in such a safe, happy and loving town. Most people find it
very hard to believe that there are still people in the world that will do
anything for their neighbors or friends, and I tell them that there are plenty
in Norwell. I myself find it hard to believe, but it is such a welcoming
town and I have cherished all of the years that I have grown up here, and wish
it could have been much longer than it was. I love Norwell and hope that
it will continue to remain as a loving and safe environment.
